BS5306 gives us guidelines as to which extinguishers to use where and on what type of fire but still leaves us with a choice.

BS 5306 states: The maintenance cycle for extinguishers should be a

basic service by Competent Person, conducted at least on an annual basis.

Inergen contains a mix of naturally occurring gases comprising nitrogen, argon and a small amount of carbon dioxide, Inergen extinguishes fires and inhibits re-ignition.

Because it is made up of natural gases, Inergen promotes environmental safety by having zero ozone depletion and zero global warming potential.

Its atmospheric lifetime of zero means that Inergen will be available on a long term basis.

Argonite is a blend of argon and nitrogen gases that occur naturally in the atmosphere. It is popular with organisations that prefer to use a non-chemical suppression agent. It works by displacing oxygen and reducing from the normal 21% to a level that will not support combustion.
